Indiana Sky

I discovered this song after I moved to Knoxville.  The leader of the widows’ group at church hosts the bimonthly meetings in her home.  She had an interesting CD playing in the background before everyone arrived one Saturday morning in 2013, and I was intrigued by the voice and music.  Later that afternoon I searched the artist’s name on Youtube and listened to many of his songs in pleasant surprise.  Because of the title, I clicked on “Indiana Sky” out of curiosity.  I had experienced amazing love under the sky in Indiana with Scott and wondered if this was a love song.  Tears started flowing as I listened to the lyrics. I played the song over and over, experiencing the same emotional response during each replay.  A search on the internet produced the lyrics, and I listened again while looking at the words. I felt a connection with this simple song deep down in my soul.  “Indiana Sky” was released in 2009 and I was unaware of the song until 2013, but the lyrics describe the wondrous love that Scott and I shared in Indiana from 2008 until his move to heaven in 2011.  I marvel at how our Cinderella fairy tale revealed a much larger love story—the love of God for us, and the discovery of that love continues to fill me with awe and gratitude.  I can revisit my memories under the Indiana sky through this song.

Lyrics (from lyricsmania.com)
Let’s dance upon our bare feet
Underneath the sycamore tree
Climb up through that canopy
To see the Indiana sky

There’s no telling what we’ll find
On back roads forgotten time
We let our wonder be the sign
That’s gonna lead us on this ride

We waited for so long
To hear the Spirit’s song
And He wants us to sing
It’s time to taste and see
All the things we’re meant to be
It ain’t too late to try
And it’s not too soon to fly

It’s time to taste and see
All the things we’re meant to be
It ain’t too late to try
And it’s not too soon to fly

We’ll awaken with the dawn
Spread our wings and gaze upon
This new day where we belong
It’s all an unfolding design

Follow the rhythm of
All that cultivates our love
And every star that hangs above
Will rejoice with us each night

We waited for so long
To hear the Spirit’s song
And He wants us to sing
It’s time to taste and see
All the things we’re meant to be
It ain’t too late to try
We waited for so long
To hear the Spirit’s song
And He wants us to sing
It’s our time to taste and see
All the things we’re meant to be
It ain’t too late to try
And it’s not too soon to fly
We will fly
We will fly
We will fly
And it’s not too late to try
